Frequently Asked Questions

What is Eden Child Development Centre, and what services do you offer?

Eden Child Development Centre is a holistic paediatric rehabilitation centre located in Calicut, specializing in the care and development of children with special needs. We provide a wide range of services, including speech therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, special education, behaviour therapy, psychological diagnosis and other services. Our mission is to empower children and families by fostering growth, independence, and improved quality of life.

Who can benefit from the services provided at Eden?

Our services cater to children with developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, learning disabilities, and other developmental challenges. We also support parents and caregivers with training and guidance to enhance their child’s progress at home. Additionally, our audiology services are available for individuals of all ages.

What is the process of the initial assessment at Eden?

The initial assessment at Eden begins with an in-depth consultation with parents or caregivers to gather a detailed understanding of the child’s history, challenges, and specific needs. Based on the primary concerns, the assessment process may include evaluations of speech and language, motor skills, cognitive abilities, or sensory processing. Additionally, diagnoses are provided by our licensed rehabilitation psychologists. Our multidisciplinary team conducts these evaluations to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the child’s development and requirements

How long does the initial assessment take?

The duration of the initial assessment varies depending on the child’s specific needs and the number of evaluations required. Generally, the detailed assessment process involves 3 to 4 sessions, each lasting 45 minutes per department, and is completed over 3 to 4 days. For those seeking quicker results, we offer an express evaluation process that can be completed in a single day, though this option is less recommended. Follow-up assessments may also be scheduled as needed for more in-depth observation or further testing.

What happens after the initial assessment?

Following the initial assessment, our multidisciplinary team meets with parents or caregivers to thoroughly discuss the findings. For children diagnosed with autism or exhibiting autistic traits, a comprehensive report is provided. This report outlines the child’s strengths, areas needing improvement, and a customized therapy plan. Based on the evaluation, we create a intervention plan with specific goals set by each department. To ensure continuous progress, we conduct detailed monthly and quarterly reviews, making adjustments to the intervention plan as needed. This collaborative process keeps parents fully informed and actively involved in their child’s developmental journey.

Can you provide a diagnosis if needed?

While we assess and identify developmental delays or challenges, formal diagnoses—such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or ADHD—are typically made in collaboration with a developmental paediatrician or psychiatrist and a licensed psychologist. Our registered psychologist conducts diagnostic evaluations, which can be further corroborated by a developmental paediatrician for a more comprehensive diagnosis. Speech-related diagnoses are provided by our licensed and registered speech-language pathologists. To ensure parents are supported throughout the process, our expert social workers offer counselling to help them understand the diagnosis and navigate the next steps with confidence.

Are assessments standardized, and how accurate are they?

Yes, our assessments are conducted using standardized tools and protocols that are evidence-based and widely recognized and recommended by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). Our experienced team ensures that the evaluations are thorough, accurate, and tailored to each child’s unique circumstances.

What should I bring for my child’s first assessment?

For the first assessment, we recommend bringing:

  • Any previous medical or therapy reports.
  • Details of the child’s developmental milestones.
  • Notes on observed challenges or concerns (e.g., delayed speech, sensory issues).
  • A favourite toy or comfort item to help the child feel at ease.
How do you address anxiety or discomfort during assessments?

We understand that assessments can be overwhelming for children. Our team uses a child-friendly approach, incorporating play-based methods and positive reinforcement to make the experience engaging and stress-free. Parents are welcome to stay with their child during the session if it helps the child feel more comfortable.

How often are re-assessments needed?

Re-assessments are typically conducted every 6 to 12 months or as needed to track progress and adjust therapy goals. This ensures that the child’s therapy plan remains relevant and effective as they grow and develop.

How do you involve families in the therapy process?

Family involvement is integral to our approach. We encourage parents to participate in therapy sessions, provide regular updates, and offer parent training programs to reinforce skills at home. Workshops and support groups are also organized to empower families with knowledge and strategies.

What is included in your therapy plans?

Therapy plans at Eden are customized and may include one or more therapies such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, behavioural therapy / psychological and special education support. Each plan is goal-oriented, with measurable outcomes and regular progress reviews to ensure alignment with the child’s developmental goals.

Do you offer group therapy or only individual sessions?

We provide both individual and group therapy sessions. Individual sessions focus on personalized goals, while group sessions are designed to foster social interaction, teamwork, and peer learning in a structured and supervised setting.

How do you ensure the quality and safety of your services?

Eden adheres to the highest standards of quality and safety. Our therapists use evidence-based practices, and the facilities are regularly sanitized. We ensure open communication with families and provide continuous training for our staff to stay updated with the latest techniques and developments.

What qualifications do your staff members have?
